aggression 4 the masses

3-минутно четиво

I can tell you one certain thing about aggression. Aggression is the one thing that the modern man is in greatest need of. In a time when TV broadcasting merely sells consumer products instead of suggesting and conflicting ideas; when political entities are more concerned with satisfying the demands of business lobby groups instead of modeling conditions for the concurrent development of businesses; when the majority of people are being afraid and cautionary, instead of being initiative, aggression is what we all need.

Our time is the time of “100% satisfaction guarantee”; the time of shopping by the catalogue; the time of online flirting with success being presumably guaranteed. And for the truly modern ones – the time of online relationships, guaranteeing not only comfort, but nonexistence of any problems or fights whatsoever. According to a recent statistical survey most of the modern, young western Europeans are expecting to find their dream partner through online dating services, instead of through a live, social contact in a caf?, for example. Expecting, or even worse – hoping so, because this is a way of dating, that provides one with the opportunity to compare candidates. On paper if they wish (on screen to be more accurate). Compare their looks, tastes, hobbies and habits, hopes and phobias, in order to be sure they find their dream partner. 100% satisfaction guarantee – the perfect slogan for an online dating service, and an unofficial relationship approach for many.

We live in the time of the lack of thrill from meeting people, lack of starting relationships, lack of unpredictability. We live in the time of Fear Inc. – fear from everything – terrorists, wars, media, politics, the future, the past, uncertainty with no guarantees, present time with no guarantees, fear of saying “I love you” with no guarantees, of being whatever we want to be, of doing whatever we want to do. Fear Inc. is the single most successful worldwide monopoly.

Contemporary communities of our time are just like a psychic patient with an inferiority complex – our time is the time of vanity. Our time is the time when we are all afraid of being Tyler Durden instead of the clever, sleepless Ourselves. In our time, according to a prominent aging (but still as current as ever in his thinking) writer – we are what we pretend to be.

The time that we live in is the time of credits, the time of credit-financed anti-credits campaigns, the time of lobbyism and pluralism together in holy matrimony; the time of the economical Big Brother, and he is building a Brave New World.

And most importantly – this is my time. I am going to be part of it since everything that concerns me depends on me. I will be whatever I like to be and do whatever I want to do, because this is what I must do. I will be spontaneous, I will kiss without warning and touch without asking, I will say “I love you” when I really do. I will break monopolies, I will do favours to friends for free, I will sell cheap products dirt cheap, and work hard for the building of another monopoly – the one of free choice. I will be active and aggressive because it helps to be Tyler Durden when – just when you want to.
